Discount Airfare: Book Fast for Spirit Airlines’ Deals

Looking for some of the lowest discount airfares of the fall? Check out discount airline Spirit’s offerings, with deals starting at $29 each-way.

To be eligible for the lowest of these airfares you have to be a member of Spirit’s $9 fare Club. To do that, visit the Web site (www.spiritair.com) and be ready to pay $39.95 per year to join. That’s the price of admission to the sale per se.

You also have to make a round-trip buy to get these deals, even though they’re quoted one way. Neither taxes nor fees are included, and you’re going to have to book and buy online no later than 11:59pm (Eastern Time), today (Monday, October 13). Do that and you can travel Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays between October 18 and February 10, 2009.

Here’s a look at a few of the city pairs on sale just now:

- Atlanta to Kingston $89

- Atlanta to Cancun $99

- Boston to Myrtle Beach $59

- Chicago (O’Hare) to Fort Myers $59

- Chicago (O’Hare) to San Juan, PR $109

- Columbia, SC to Fort Lauderdale $59

- Detroit to New York (LaGuardia) $59

- Detroit to Orlando $59

- Detroit to Tampa $59

- Detroit to Los Angeles $88

- Detroit to Las Vegas $98.88

- Fort Lauderdale to Nassau $29

- Fort Lauderdale to Tampa $29

- Fort Lauderdale to Washington, DC (Reagan National) $49

- Fort Lauderdale to San Pedro Sula, Honduras $59

- Fort Lauderdale to San Jose, Costa Rica $69

- Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles $89

- Fort Lauderdale to Bogotá $99

If you fly more than two or three times per year, Spirit’s $9 Fare Club could be a very good deal. If you’re planning to fly just once, that $39.95 entry fee is effectively an add–on to your ticket. Discount airline Spirit is one of the most innovative carriers in the industry when it comes to designing fare sales. It’s also one of the most aggressive when it comes to designing incremental revenue add-ons such as bag fees, amenity fees, and sale fare fees. The airline says those fees allow it to continue to offer bare-bones discount airfares.
