JetBlue Airways' New Routes to the Bahamas

Been thinking about a Bahamas vacation? Pending governmental go-aheads there will be new lift to the islands beginning on February 1, 2009. That's when discount airline JetBlue plans to begin lofting daily nonstop service to Nassau (NAS) from Orlando (MCO), and twice-daily flights from Fort Lauderdale (FLL).

JetBlue will deploy 100-seat Embraer 190s on the routes. The craft's seatback TV offers premium movie selections, and there are more than 100 channels of XM Satellite Radio.

The new routes make for more competition on each route. According to Official Airline Guide (OAG), US Airways Express and Bahamasair (Web site: up.bahamasair.com) already fly Orlando to Nassau nonstop. Five carriers currently ply the short Fort Lauderdale to Nassau run: Bahamasair, United Express, Continental Connection, US Airways Express, and discount airline Spirit.
