LAX FlyAway Fares Rise - Discounts for Seniors, Disabled

If you're one of the 1.3 million flyers who rode the popular LAX FlyAway bus (Web site: www.lawa.org/flyaway) last year to or from Los Angeles International Airport this should be of more than passing interest. It's going to cost you more to ride the bus in 2009.

Beginning January 1, 2009, if you're riding from either Union Station or Van Nuys, the one-way rate balloons from $4 to $6. The Westwood-LAX run increases from $4 to $5.

To be fair, since the FlyAway bus service's inception back in 1975 the fare has only increased by $1.

If you're 65 or over, or disabled, the new discount fare will be $4 one-way on all FlyAway routes. Kids under two still ride free.

Gina Marie Lindsey, Executive Director of Los Angeles World Airports, says the rate increases mark “a first step toward making FlyAway into a self-sustaining transportation network.”
