Midwest Airlines To Re-enter Milwaukee-Fort Myers Market

Back when Midwest Airlines said it was re-working its route structure to save money, the carrier decided to cut nonstop Milwaukee to Fort Myers flights. Now it’s about to get back in the mix.

Midwest says it will ply the route on a seasonal basis from December 20 through April 18, 2009. Actually, it won’t be Midwest alone that’s doing the flying. In addition to Midwest Boeing 717 twinjets, Midwest is contracting out a slice of the flying to Republic Airlines (Web site: www.republicairlines.com). That carrier will use 76-seat Embraer 170 regional jets on the run.

Official Airline Guide (OAG) indicates that discount airline AirTran also flies nonstop from Milwaukee to Fort Myers. Several months ago, AirTran tried (unsuccessfully) to purchase Milwaukee-based Midwest. The discount airline has been beefing up its service out of Milwaukee ever since.
