Republic Airways Considers Hawaiian Market

Indianapolis-based Republic Airways (Web site: www.rjet.com) is considering entering the Hawaiian market following the demise of Aloha Airlines some months ago.

The Honolulu Advertiser reports that an October 1 memo posted at Republic's mainland offices revealed that the carrier is considering interisland flights using Embraer 170 jets under a codeshare agreement with a local airline.

The newspaper adds that sources say Republic is holding talks with Big Island commuter carrier Mokulele Airlines (Web site: www.mokuleleairlines.com).

Republic is a regional carrier that operates for major carriers such as United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines.

Mokulele, meanwhile, is based in Kailua-Kona, and has been flying between the Islands since 1998.
