Southwest Airlines May Gain From Competitors' Fees

Southwest Airlines is hoping to profit from fees and surcharges imposed by other U.S. carriers, the Dallas Morning News reports.

According to the newspaper, Southwest "is making a big deal about its no-fees policy so that customers remember the message the first time they get socked with fees on other airlines".

Dave Ridley, Senior Vice-President of Marketing and Revenue Management for the Dallas-based carrier, told the newspaper that people, for example, may be displeased about having to pay $230 in baggage fees for travel on other carriers during Thanksgiving.

"Imagine the shock and awe," he said.
