Allegiant Air to End Flights From Mascoutah

Allegiant Air is to end services from MidAmerica St Louis Airport in Mascoutah (Web site: www.flymidamerica.com) from January 3, 2009.

The carrier, which operates twice-weekly flights from Mascoutah to Las Vegas, ended its Orlando flights from the airport in September.

Tyri Squyres, a spokeswoman for Allegiant, told the St Louis Post-Dispatch that the cancelations were due to competition from other carriers.

"Competitively, there's some good low-cost service out of Lambert," she said.

"We have been considering this for a long time and it was a difficult decision ... It's just the geography of that situation can't be helped."

Squyres said that passengers with tickets booked for travel after January 3 will be offered three options - to receive a full refund, to reschedule their dates for earlier travel, or to fly on any other Allegiant service.
