American Airlines

American Airlines Limits Holiday Bags to Some Cities

If you’re headed for certain Latin American cities on American Airlines (AA) or American Eagle this coming holiday season get set to pack light, and don’t expect to be able to check boxes. Not at any price.

Neither American nor Eagle will allow you to check more than two pieces of luggage. Checked boxes are verboten completely.

AA says these restrictions will run from just after Thanksgiving all the way through the beginning of the New Year – November 29 through January 10, 2009.

The policy takes in a pretty large swath of real estate. Here’s what’s included:

- Cali, Colombia

- Medellin, Colombia

- Maracaibo, Venezuela

- La Paz, Bolivia

- Santa Cruz, Bolivia

- San Salvador, El Salvador

- San Pedro Sula, Honduras

- Tegucigalpa, Honduras

- Kingston, Jamaica

- Port-au-Prince, Haiti

- Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

- Santiago, Dominican Republic

- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

- Guadalajara, Mexico

- Mexico City, Mexico

There’s more: all American Eagle flights to and from San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), in the Caribbean, are covered by these restrictions.
