American Automobile Association Predicts Drop in Holiday Travel

The American Automobile Association (AAA) (Web site: www.aaa.com) has said that there will be a small decline in the number of travelers over the Thanksgiving period.

Around 41 million Americans will travel further than 50 miles from home this Thanksgiving, a drop of 1.4 percent compared to last year when 41.6 million Americans traveled more than 50 miles.

This is the first decline in the number of Thanksgiving travelers since 2002, and the fourth consecutive holiday period decline this year.

Robert L Darbelnet, AAA President and Chief Executive, said: "The overall state of the economy continues to present real challenges for some Americans looking to travel this Thanksgiving.

"However, the desire to spend time with family, combined with significantly lower gasoline prices than earlier this year, will provide a strong impetus for many Americans to travel this holiday season."
