Atlanta International Airport Boosts Security Lanes – 32 Conduits

If you’ve frequented Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), you know security wait times have been a bit of a pain. Now, just in time for the Thanksgiving crush, comes some good news.

By adding four new lanes to the Terminal South, and six to the Terminal North, the world’s busiest airport now boasts 32 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) conduits.

Truth told, things were already getting better at ATL. “During the traditionally busy ‘100 Days of Summer’ this year,” says Ben DeCosta, Aviation General Manager, “we managed to reduce the number of wait times exceeding 20 minutes by almost 90 percent over last year.”

The new lanes should improve matters even more.

Helping out at Hartsfield is the introduction of TSA’s trifurcated security lanes, which segregate flyers depending on their burden, and level of experience. Black Diamond Lanes are for expert flyers, Blue Square for more casual travelers, and Green Circle lanes for folks flying with young children in strollers, or who might have special needs.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International is the prime hub for the world’s largest airline, Delta. It’s also discount airline AirTran’s largest hub.
