Delta Air Lines Cancels Preferred Seats Program

Delta Air Lines has canceled its preferred seats program after negative feedback from travelers.

Last month, the carrier began offering coach class flyers the chance to upgrade to better seats with a payment of between $5 and $25 depending on the duration of flight and seat location.

However, some members of the carrier's frequent-flyer program were unhappy that their access to preferred seats was restricted as a result of the new offer.

In an e-mail to Medallion members, Jeff Robertson, Vice-President of Loyalty Programs for Delta, said: "Retaining your long-term loyalty is of paramount importance to us, and we're not afraid to change course when we need."

He added that the carrier would cancel the new program and revert to its old system.
