Fast Pass Parking Comes to Akron/Canton Airport

Here’s a timely addition at Akron/Canton (CAK), just in time for the Thanksgiving crush. Now, flyers can flash a Fast Pass card on their way through CAK’s parking lots. The upshot: you don’t have to wait in line, nor can you lose your parking ticket. There isn’t one.

Sign up for Fast Pass at the airport’s Web site (www.akroncantonairport.com. Fast Pass links to a preauthorized credit card, one you choose. You can enter or exit any lot at CAK, as long as it’s through the Fast Pass lane. Wave the card at the reader and be on your way. It automatically records when you come and when you go and charges your card accordingly. No need to slow for a receipt. You get one via e-mail or fax within 24 hours.

Lots of other improvements are going on at the Ohio airport as part of a ten-year, $110-million Capital Improvement Plan. Look for a 600-foot runway extension that will allow full-sized jets to fly to the West Coast, the Caribbean or Mexico. Should the latter two routes eventuate, returning passengers will be able to use a new Customs and Border Facility. Another key project: extension of the upper level concourse at Akron/Canton.

Akron/Canton provides a ready alternative for some Ohio flyers to Cleveland Hopkins International. One of CAK’s prime carriers is discount airline AirTran, which, among other routes, offers nonstop service to New York LaGuardia (LGA).
