Hello Columbus! AirTran Helps Fill Void Left by Skybus Demise
Not all that long ago, Columbus OH (CMH) was a low-fare leader because it was headquarters of discount airline Skybus. Then the carrier folded. Now, a bit of good news. Discount airline AirTran has launched nonstop service from Port Columbus International to a trio of cities. Off-peak discount airfares start at $54, one-way.
That's the tab - exclusive of taxes and fees - to Atlanta. AirTran fields a pair of daily nonstops on the route.
According to Official Airline Guide (OAG) Delta already flies the CMH-ATL route. Providing competition between Columbus and Orlando (MCO) is discount airline Southwest. AirTran is charging $74, one-way, down to the central Florida entertainment center for off-peak travel. Then there's Fort Myers. AirTran has that route all to itself, and the one-way, off-peak discount airfare is $67.
As for in-flight service and dependability, the 2008 Airline Quality rating study rates AirTran tops in the nation.
