Southern California Sojourns – AAA Predicts Slight Downturn in Travel
Southern Californians love to travel and this year’s no different. More than three million of them (3.2 million to be precise) will be leaving home for the Thanksgiving holiday. While substantial, that’s 2 percent fewer than last year according to the Automobile Club of Southern California (Web site: www.aaa-calif.com).
The Auto Club says 344,000 Southern Californians will fly this Thanksgiving, 5 percent fewer than last. Another 2.68 million will drive, 2 percent fewer than in 2007. The rest of those getting out of town will take a cruise, hop a bus, or go by train.
How does the 3.2 million SoCal sojourners compare to national numbers? Forty-one million Americans are traveling this most family-centric of holidays.
As for destinations, the Auto Club says Southern Californians will, for the most part, cleave close to home. The top five destinations are
- Mexico
- The Grand Canyon
