Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines Adds 26 D.C. Flights For Inauguration

We’re not guaranteeing you will find a hotel room when you get there (rooms as far away as southern Pennsylvania are sold out) but airlines are doing all they can to get you to the inauguration of Barack Obama, the 44th Chief Executive of the United States of America.

Southwest’s D.C. “megacity” (that’s what the carrier calls its hubs) is Baltimore/Washington International (BWI). Here’s a lineup of the additional trips Southwest is offering to and from BWI, and to and from Washington Dulles (IAD), and when they’re scheduled to run.

Remember, these flights are in addition to Southwest’s regular schedule:

January 17, 2009:
- One nonstop from Austin (AUS) to BWI
- One nonstop from Birmingham (BHM) to BWI
- One nonstop from Houston Hobby to BWI
- One nonstop from Chicago Midway (MDW) to Washington Dulles
- One nonstop from St. Louis (STL) to BWI

January 18, 2008:
- One nonstop from BWI to Austin
- One nonstop from BWI to Birmingham
- One no nstop from BWI to Houston Hobby
- One nonstop from BWI to St. Louis
- One nonstop from St. Louis to BWI
- One nonstop from Washington Dulles to Chicago Midway
- One nonstop from Chicago Midway to Washington Dulles

January 19, 2008:
- One nonstop from BWI to St. Louis
- One nonstop from Washington Dulles to Chicago Midway
- One nonstop from Chicago Midway to Washington Dulles

January 20, 2009 (Inauguration Day)
- One nonstop from Kansas City (MCI) to BWI
- One nonstop from Chicago Midway to BWI
- One nonstop from Washington Dulles to Chicago Midway
- One nonstop from Chicago Midway to Washington Dulles

January 21, 2009:
- One nonstop from BWI to Kansas City
- One nonstop from BWI to Chicago Midway
- One nonstop from Washington Dulles to Chicago Midway
- One nonstop from Chicago Midway to Washington Dulles
- One nonstop from San Diego to BWI

January 22, 2008:
- One nonstop from Washington Dulles to Chicago Midway
- One nonstop from BWI to San Diego

One thing is immediately apparent in this beefed-up schedule: the number of flights to and from Chicago. The city is President-Elect Obama’s adopted hometown.
