United Airlines Offers 20% Discount on First Checked Bag

United Airlines has announced that it is offering passengers 20 per cent off the cost of checking the first piece of luggage.

To avail of the discount, travelers must check-in online and pay the fee at United’s Web site (www.united.com) before January 31, 2009.

The carrier has also said that it will keep the cost of checking a second piece of luggage to $25, instead of doubling it to $50 as planned.

Dennis Cary, Chief Marketing and Customer Officer of United Airlines, said: "We are listening to our customers, and these changes are designed to give them more choice and flexibility to customize their travel experience while keeping our prices competitive in a rapidly changing market environment."

Ever since the airlines put the baggage fee in effect, our family has chosen Southwest as our only airline. Until the other airlines can get a clue, we will continue this trend.
