Frontier ‘AirFairs’: Choose Your Perks, Choose Your Fares
Operating on the premise that you get what you pay for, Frontier Airlines has rolled out a new pricing structure – "AirFairs."
Contending that the new tri-level pricing “brings choice and fairness back to the travel experience,” Frontier President and CEO Sean Menke says the new structure offers flyers the “flexibility…they want to arrange their travel to fit their specific budget and comfort needs.”
The three-tiers are Classic Plus, Classic and Economy.
Classic Plus is a fully-refundable airfare. Buy a seat, and then change it to a confirmed seat on a different flight the same day for no extra charge. You get priority seating on Frontier’s single-class aircraft, two checked bags, free DIRECTV®, an in-flight snack “and a premium beverage.” Classic Plus flyers can also rack up 150 percent mileage credit in Frontier’s EarlyReturns frequent flyer program.
Classic is sort of a middle-ground airfare. Pay as little as $20 above Economy and get advanced seat assignments, a pair of checked bags, in-flight TV, and 125 percent EarlyReturns mileage credit. Want to change your flight? It will cost $50 for itinerary switches, and $75 for same-day confirmed changes.
Economy boils down to your basic seat. If you want a cheap flight, and don’t envision changes this is what you book. It also pays to carry your bag on the aircraft if you’re booking this class. Frontier calls Economy, “our guaranteed lowest fare.”
To better help you understand all of this, Frontier has redesigned its Web site to educate consumers on the various fares.
Frontier, a Denver-based carrier whose aircraft tails are bedecked with wondrous depictions of native wildlife, is currently flying under Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. Its operations continue unimpeded.
