Increased Security at Mumbai Airport

Officials in Mumbai report that security at Mumbai's Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport has been beefed up in response to last week's terrorist attacks.

Measures to secure the airport include two-hourly checks by managers and senior staff who will report to the security control room, ladder checks before passengers are allowed to board any aircraft, and dustbin checks every 15-20 minutes.

This past weekend, gunmen attacked Mumbai luxury hotels, and reports of planned attacks on cafes and rail stations were reported this week. After a 60-hour siege, the attacks left more than 180 people dead and hundreds more injured.

In addition to the security measures being taken at Mumbai airport, visitors will no longer be allowed to enter the terminal building and cars will be forbidden to park outside.
