Northwest Airlines Launches Hartford-Amsterdam Flights

Travelers hoping for cheap flights to Amsterdam from Hartford’s Bradley International (BDL) can start planning: Northwest Airlines just announced plans to fly the popular route as of June 2, 2009.

Northwest plans to offer Amsterdam flights from Hartford five times a week on board the 757-200. The airline flew this route regularly until earlier this year when budget cuts meant cutting the Hartford-Amsterdam route.

How happy are locals to get the flight back? “To have this service reinstated at a time when the airlines are going through a severe downturn is nothing short of miraculous,” says Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Joseph F. Marie.

Some 4.7 million travelers are located within a 90-mile radius of Bradley International and for many travelers, the southern New England airport provides a less crowded, far more convenient alternative to Boston Logan (BOS), New York Kennedy (JFK) or Newark Liberty International (EWR).

When flyers get to Amsterdam, they can connect onward via KLM. The carrier’s Amsterdam hub is linked with 81 cities in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India.
