United Airlines offering discounts for online baggage check-in

United Airlines is offering a discount on baggage fees for passengers who check-in online on the carrier's website.

Travelers who do so before January 31, 2009 will pick up a 20 percent discount on fees for the first bag checked-in.

Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes one hour before departure for U.S. flights and two hours before take-off for international services.

Passengers are not required to pay for carry-on bags. Each traveler is permitted to take two carry-on bags into the aircraft.
