Commuter Train Project Picks Up Pace at Providence Airport
Good news for Boston travelers on Providence cheap flights: All that construction you see at Providence’s T.F. Green Airport (PVD) is aimed to get you back to Boston quicker.
Slated to receive MBTA commuter trains beginning in late 2010, the airport’s new Intermodal Facility will make it far easier for flyers headed to Providence or Boston to get into town. This will be especially good news for travelers on discount airline Southwest flights, which has a significant presence at PVD.
The Intermodal Facility will also sport a six-level parking garage and car rental facilities. Because it gets cold in New England, there will be an elevated, enclosed walkway—replete with moving sidewalks—to whisk you from the terminal to the facility.
When its finished, T.F. Green officials contend the $267 transportation hub “will be the closest rail line to a major airport terminal in the country.” That line will be a mere 1,570 feet away.
