Continental Debuts New and Advertiser-Friendly Boarding Passes

Consider the typical boarding pass: a piece of paper (sometimes electronic) with your flight and seat number, frequent-flyer number, departure time, arrival time, destination and gate number located in plain site. Essential, but not exciting... until now.

Continental Airlines has teamed up with Sojern to produce a boarding pass that’s loaded with travel information including destination-specific weather, restaurants, and coupons.

Checking-in at one of Continental's airport kiosks prints out a boarding pass filled with information specific to that traveler, but how did they gather that info? Some say it's a great marketing tool for local advertisers, others say it's an invasion of the traveler's privacy.

Sojern says none of a flyer’s “personally-identifiable information is shared.” It will be interesting to see how flyers respond to all the new info that’s embedding itself into the once bland boarding passes.
