Delta, Northwest Merge Gates at Airports Nationwide

As the two carriers work toward merging their names and customers, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines will begin combining gates they use at airports around the nation.

Reports predict approximately 170 Delta gates at various airports may be dropped, resulting in lower rental fees.

Betsy Talton, a spokeswoman for Delta, told The Associated Press that Delta-dominated airports would have their Northwest gates merged with Delta's, while Northwest-strong airports would see their Delta gates folded into Northwest ones.

She added that in either case, Delta signs and logos will be used at all consolidated gates.

Delta Air Lines acquired Northwest in October last year, combining to make the world's biggest airline.
