Delta Air Lines Introduces Paperless Boarding Passes for Atlanta Flights

In one of the most significant steps yet in the move toward paperless passage, the world’s largest airline has introduced electronic boarding passes at the world’s busiest airport. Delta Air Lines now offers travelers at its Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) hub the option of using their Web-enabled, hand-held devices in lieu of paper boarding passes.

In a prepared statement, Delta says the set-up is good for domestic trips only, and applies to nonstop travel on Delta, Northwest, and Delta connection flights departing Atlanta.

Here’s how it works:

If you’re traveling domestically, and checking in for a non-stop Atlanta flight, download your boarding pass to your mobile device within 24 hours of departure by going to either Delta or Northwest's (who have recently merged) websites.

Travelers with only carry-ons can head straight to security, while people checking bags may leave them at the drop location beforehand. At the security checkpoint, the Transportation Security Administration will check the electronic pass and your ID, allowing you to proceed to the departure gate. Show your pass to the customer service agent, and you’re on your way.

Just make sure your PDA has sufficient battery power.
