American Airlines Goes Green on Paris-Miami Flight
What's so different about American Airlines flight 63 from Paris to Miami?
If all goes as planned, flight 63 could pave the way for more eco-friendly flying. This Thursday, June 11, American Airlines will test next generation technology on board a Boeing 767-300 to prove that long trans-Atlantic flights can help promote green travel.
The Forth Worth-based airline said the green flight will use various in-flight conversation measures to show other planes how existing technology can cut carbon emissions, according to the Star-Telegram.
According to the paper, American Airlines received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Commission to fly an 'optimized route over the Atlantic that will help and tailor its arrival into Miami to keep the plane higher than usual before descent.'
In addition to the optimized route plan, American will initiate single-engine taxiing and maintain a continous climb and descent in-flight, instead of leveling off at 10,000, 15,000 and 24,000 feet.
