Delta Drops Non-stop Routes, 'Reassess Staffing Needs'
Reports say Delta Air Lines will trim flights and staff as a result of rising fuel costs and revenue loss.
According to USA Today, Delta "will trim more capacity than first expected as rising fuel costs and the continued economic downturn hit the world’s largest carrier. The cuts will take place later this year."
The paper reports that Delta will cut several routes:
- Cincinnati will lose international non-stop flights to Frankfurt and London
- Altanta will lose its non-stop flights to Seoul and Shanghai.
- New York JFK will lose its non-stop flights to Edinburgh, Scotland
- Reduce weekly flights connecting Atlanta and Detroit to Mexico City
In addition, Delta said in a company-wide memo that "the additional capacity reductions mean we again must reassess staffing needs. While the challenges of the current environment preclude us from making guarantees, our goal remains to avoid any involuntary furloughs of frontline employees."
