Republic Airways to Buy Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines, the Denver-based regional carrier is in negotiations with Republic Airways to work through bankruptcy. The regional airline filed for bankruptcy in April, 2008, and competes with Southwest Airlines and JetBlue airways.

According to Reuters, Republic has offered to buy Frontier for $108.75 million so it can exit bankruptcy protection. Potentially, Frontier will resurface in the fall as a part of Republic, but will operate under its current name, and hopes to continue service as normally as possible.

The deal willt be final after an auction in mid-July to see if there are any higher bidders, and it receives approval from authorities.
