Airline News: Spirit Airlines Reportedly Buys Air Jamaica

Spirit Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has reportedly purchased Air Jamaica.

Jamaica’s Gleaner newspaper said the Air Jamaica Privatisation Committee recommended the sale to Indigo Partners and Oaktree Capital (both investors in Spirit Airlines) and sign off was to happen sign off on the deal is expected today.

The newspaper also reported that name change discussions were on the table -- Air Jamaica might be changed to Spirit of Jamaica.

Spirit is a privately owned low-cost airlines famous for its $9 fare club. The airline currently services 36 cities in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.
