Airlines News: US Airways to Close Club, Cut Jobs
US Airways sent a memo to employees on Tuesday saying the company plans to eliminate 600 jobs this fall. The airline will also close its US Airways Club in Las Vegas and its city ticket office in Phoenix, one of the airline’s hubs.
The cuts are due to a weakening economy, said US Airways Chief Operating Officer Robert Isom in the memo. “Today’s economy demands we continue to look for ways to control costs,” said Isom.
The airline said it will also cut staff at its US Airways Club in Phoenix, and switch to outside vendors for ramp services at nine of its airports: Mid-Continent in Kansas; Austin and El Paso, Texas; Boise; Burbank and Long Beach, California.; Colorado Springs; Milwaukee; and Omaha, according to reports from the Associated Press.

people, when are we going to get it right? job cuts are not the answer. efficient management, lower prices and better services is the way to operate a business. job cuts are only going to hurt the economy even worse by overburdening the unemployment funds and less spending, which only deepens the impact. before long, when all these people can't find a job at the pay scale they were at, they'll settle for minimum wage jobs and still will not be able to spend like they did before, which only hurts retailers and other businesses. so the cycle continues!!!
