US Airways Raising Checked Bag Fees

US Airways announced today it is raising its checked bag fees by $5 for both the first and second checked bags on domestic flights, and is adding an additional fee for a second checked bag on trans-Atlantic flights.

US Airways travelers will now have to pony up $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second bag checked in online. If you're planning on checking your bags curbside, the price jumps an additional $5.

If you're flying overseas, you'll pay $50 for a second checked bag - a move that matches the recent bag fee hikes from competitors American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

The new checked bag fees are effective for airline tickets booked today, Wed., Aug. 26 and for travel on or after Oct. 7. Similar to the other airlines, US Airways frequent fliers program members will be exempt from the fees, as will first class passengers and active-duty military personnel.
