American Airlines Undergoes Deeper FAA Investigation

Aa-plane-nose-small
Last week, we told you about the many violations that some US carriers were facing from the FAA. This week, it seems as though American Airlines has a few more pieces to pick up.

The FAA has reportedly begun a more in-depth investigation of structural problems in a fraction of American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series jets. The aging fleet is undergoing a detailed maintenance, per the FAA’s formal letter of investigation.

The model’s bulkhead is the area that needs the most repairs. Sixteen of the air-crafts in the fleet have been operating for months, and although they have received marginal repairs, are still on their way to standard approval.

American Airlines is currently in the process of replacing the MD-80s with new, more fuel efficient planes while accommodating the slight decline in air travel.
