Ryanair Threatens "Divorce" with Boeing
Ryanair has been quite active this year when it comes to making bold moves for money. We’ve seen them charge for in-flight bathroom use, allow “smoking” while 30,000 feet in the air, and play with fees and taxes. Now, its CEO, Michael O’Leary, is publicly threatening Boeing with a “divorce.”
According to USA Today, O’Leary is sometimes known to make audacious statements, but because of Ryanair’s unique financial position and cash reserves, his threats may not be in vain. He’s tapping his foot toward Boeing, and warning the American plane maker that he might switch in favor of the European Airbus.
Ryanair is currently one of Boeing’s biggest customers, so losing its service would be a blow to its financial bottom line. The low-cost carrier has been unsuccessfully negotiating a large purchase for 200 of Boeing’s 737s for the past year.
