Low-Cost Airlines Top Customer Satisfaction Study

The days of getting dressed up for a flight, enjoying VIP service and arriving to your destination refreshed are long gone. These days, most of us are content to make it through security in a timely manner and get a complimentary in-flight beverage. So, just how satisfied are travelers?

In its 2009 North America Airline Satisfaction Study, J.D. Power & Associates reports that Alaska Airlines was on the top of the list for customer satisfaction among traditional network carriers. This is the second year Alaska has taken the top honor. Continental Airlines also ranked high in overall satisfaction, reservation experience, check-in experience and boarding and deplaning. United Airlines and US Airways were ranked lowest in the traditional network carriers category.

In the low-cost carrier category, JetBlue ranked highest for the fourth straight year, particularly in the aircraft and in-flight service categories.

Discount Airfare: Alaska Airlines Hawaii Flight Sale

If you're on the East Coast, summer flight deals to Europe are about as cheap as they get. But those on the West Coast are being lured by the tropics, thanks to amazing Hawaii airfare sales.

Alaska Airlines is offering cheap flights to Honolulu and Maui between July 3 and Sept. 30. Fares start at $169 OW.  Book by June 3.

Alaska Airlines' 24-Hour Promotion

We love surprises, which is why we are loving the Alaska Airlines “Deep Daily Discounts” promotion going on through April 27th.

Here’s how it works: Each day, the airline will announce a new city that is discounted 30 percent. This means that flights to and from that location are on sale for 24 hours, beginning at midnight. Travel for any of these cities must be completed by June 17th.

Today’s city is Newark/New York.

Alaska Air Sale: Hawaii Flights from $219 OW

Talk about going from one extreme to another. Alaska Airlines is making it easier to escape the chill and hit the beach, but you must book today (Mar. 31). Travel is valid through June 7.

In a search for Anchorage flights to Honolulu, April could be the best time to fly. There were plenty of cheap Hawaii flights priced at $219 one way. However, fares increase substantially on April 17, 18 and 25.

Sale flights on Alaska Air are a little harder to come by, but they’re out there. Opt to fly on the weekends to get the best fares in May.

Alaska Airlines Cancels Flights Due to Volanic Ash

Alaska Airlines cancelled 19 flights this morning due to volcanic ash stemming from the eruption of Mt. Redoubt near Anchorage.

In a statement, Alaska Airlines says that travelers headed to Anchorage or departing from Anchorage to Bethel, Deadhorse, Kodiak, Nome, Kotzebue and Barrow will be impacted until further notice. Travelers can check the status of their flight at alaskaair.com or by calling 1-800-ALASKAAIR. The airline said it was making every effort to re-accommodate passengers.

Alaska Airlines Temporarily Suspends Petersburg Flights

If you’re headed to remote Petersburg, Alaska, in the far southeastern part of the state, know that Alaska Airlines is temporarily suspending jet service to the airport. The carrier won’t operate into, or out of the airport until at least April 21st. That’s because workers are replacing several culverts that span the runway.

Alaska Air: Kids Fly Free to Disneyland

Alaska, Horizon Launch 8-day Airfare Sale

California travelers listen up: Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air have announced an eight-day sale on California flights to numerous cities in the Pacific Northwest.

Passengers have until March 20 to purchase the $40 fares, which are valid for travel between March 20 and May 31. The $40 fares are one-way, excluding taxes and require a 7-day advance purchase.

Flights from Portland, Oregon to Oakland, Sacramento, and flights to San Francisco start at $49; flights to Santa Rosa priced at $69.

Alaska Airlines Test In-flight Wi-Fi

Add Alaska Airlines to the growing list of airlines testing in-flight Wi-Fi.

Row 44 will provide WiFi on Alaska Air flights via the carriers Boeing 737-700. In-flight, flyers will be able to access online music, games, podcasts, and webcasts, as well as send and receive e-mails.

In a prepared release, Alaska Air says the Wi-Fi service will initially be free. The first Wi-Fi flight will be on an afternoon Seattle/Tacoma (SEA) to San Jose, CA (SJC) flight and will run for about 60 days. After the two-month test, Alaska Air says it will look at rolling out Wi-Fi out for its entire fleet.
