American extends military discounts

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan aren’t over yet and neither are American Airlines’ discount airfares to service members and their immediate families.

The world’s largest airline says it is extending discount airfares to active-duty members of the United States military – as well as to spouses and children – through December 31. In addition to discount airfares, AA is relaxing advance-purchase requirements, and offering preferred boarding privileges.

Dan Garton, American’s Executive Vice President for Marketing, says it’s the carrier’s way of showing its appreciation for “the courage, dedication, and sacrifice that our troops and their families exhibit on a daily basis”.

These military discounts can be purchased up to a week after reservations are made. Normally, you’ve got to buy within 24 hours. That makes it easier for military families to make travel arrangements.

Here’s a look at some of the each-way airfares on oft-used military routes AA is offering to service members and their immediate families:

- Colorado Springs (COS) to New York City $109

- Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to New Orleans (MSY) $109

- Dallas/Fort Worth to St. Louis (STL) $109

- Miami (MIA) to New York City (LGA or JFK) $109

- El Paso (ELP) to Norfolk (ORF) $119

- Austin (AUS) to Los Angeles (LAX) $159

- Boston (BOS) to San Antonio (SAT) $159

- Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Orlando (MCO) $159

- Los Angeles to Miami $159

- New York City (LGA and JFK) to Seattle/Tacoma (SEA) $184

- San Antonio (SAT) to Frankfurt, Germany (FRA) $450

All these military discount airfares are each way, but you’ll have to make a round-trip purchase to get them. Neither taxes nor fees are included.

Yes I’m in Iraq now, soon will be back to Germany and will like to take my family to Disneyworld. I have been searching for flights or they are too expensive or they are not avaliable. Can you get me a better offer for an army soldier coming from Iraq?
