American Airlines Offers Cheap Holiday Flights Across the Country


American_plane Whether you’re in need of a flight for the holidays, or just want a weekend away from all the fuss, the only reason you’ll really need to jet-set, is the fact that these prices are so low.  American Airlines is offering cheap flights across the United States for as low as $58 each way.

Travel is valid between Dec. 2, 2009 and March 9, 2010, and the lowest fares are available Mon-Thurs, and Saturday. Blackout dates do apply, so be sure to read the fine print.

Delta Makes Offer for JAL to Abandon its Partnership with American Airlines

While American undergoes internal challenges, they’re also competing externally to keep Japan Airlines (JAL) as a partner. Delta, now the largest carrier in the world, is trying to lure JAL to leave American and its Oneworld Alliance, and join it and Skyteam to recover from its recent fiscal struggles.

Since the 1990’s, American has partnered with JAL, and collaborates on routes and rewards programs. While American stays firm in its stance that JAL’s best move is to stay with the Oneworld Alliance and work through its conflict, Delta is pushing back and making a lucrative offer.

American Airlines' Flight Attendants Stage Strike


American_plane In an effort to display their unhappiness concerning stalled contract negotiations, flight attendants for American Airlines staged a fake strike yesterday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Picketing workers stood at entrances and handed leaflets to passengers detailing their point of view. They chanted slogans, mocked the CEO, and flight attendants in the air wore red badges that signified flights that they believed would not be able to fly without them.

Flight attendants for American Airlines have taken 33 percent pay cuts and benefits since 2003, and have received reduces pay raises annually, according to USA Today.

American Airlines: Kids Fly Free to Vail

Kids in snow Skiing can be an expensive hobby, especially when you include the entire family, so who wouldn’t love a free flight to one of the best ski destinations in the U.S.?

Book a flight to Vail this winter on American Airlines and kids fly free.

Here’s how it works: For every paid adult flight ticket, one child can fly free as long as seats are available. Flights are valid to Vail between Dec. 1 and Dec. 17 and again between Jan. 3 and Feb. 10. There are no blackout dates, but you must fly to Vail Sunday through Wednesday and return Monday through Friday.

Delta and American Vie for Partnership with Japan Airlines

American_plane Delta-Northwest and American Airlines are competing for partnership with Japan Airlines. The Asian carrier has had a very public financial struggle this year, and has asked the government for more funding in order to keep afloat.


Currently, a partnership exists between Japan Airlines and American Airlines. The two companies share frequent flier benefits and international routes. In order to save money, Japan Airlines has cut certain routes, and is looking for more ways to gain capital.

American Airlines has put flights to Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama on sale. The fares are good for flights which operate daily, but take note of the black-out dates around the holidays. Book by Dec.12 for travel through Feb. 8, 2010.

Why travel to Central America? Many locations, like Costa Rica, are perfect for the adventure and eco-friendly traveler, with plenty of outdoor excursions. Or, if you want to relax on the beach, there are plenty of places to do that too.

American Airlines Flight Attendants Hold Mock Strikes

American Airlines flight attendants will stage mock strikes throughout the American Airlines network this month, thanks to unresolved labor disputes.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants Union, which represents the 18,000 American Airlines flight attendants, said that on Nov. 18, protests will be held at airports around the country emphasizing how flights will be disrupted if a real strike should occur. The union is organizing 'mock strikes' while it continues to seek permission for real strikes beginning next year.

American Airlines Cheap Flights for the Holidays

There’s no sense in fighting it. The holidays are just around the corner and before life gets too hectic, consider booking your holiday fares now.

American Airlines has broken out their lowest fares into a holiday calendar for November, December and January. Dates are color-coded for “low,” “lower” and “lowest” fares.

Cheapflights Tip: Flying on the actual holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day) will yield some of the lowest fares.

Flights are available to dozens of cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston.  When we searched on two of the “lowest” fare travel dates between Los Angeles and San Jose, we found a round-trip fare for $188 with taxes included.

American Airlines and Lexus Offer Free In-flight Wireless

Aa-plane-nose-small Next week, you can rest easy about staying connected while you fly, especially if you’re flying with American Airlines. The carrier recently announced a new promotion, in which Lexus will provide free wireless internet for passengers.

From Nov. 1-7, on American Airlines Wi-Fi-equipped air-crafts, you can stay in touch, informed, and up to date with all of your personal online resources for free. As a part of Lexus’ introduction of the 2010 Lexus LS line, it will provide free Gogo in-flight internet service for your laptop, phone, or PDA.

In order to gain access, you must enter the code 2010LEXUSLS.

American Airlines was the first US carrier to launch in-flight wireless service.

American Airlines to Close Kansas City Base

American Airlines announced today that it would close its maintenance base at Kansas City International Airport in Missouri in September 2010. The decision was made because of a decrease in flights.

The airline’s fleet, which used to amount to 900, is now down to 600. American Airlines currently also has maintenance bases in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Fort Worth, Texas. The maintenance hangar at Tulsa International Airport location just opened last month, and cost $9.8 million, and employs 6,000 mechanics.
