Airline News: American Airlines Discounts Boston-DC Flights

Great news for people in the Boston and DC areas: if you’re looking for a last-minute getaway for the holiday weekend, it can still happen!

American Airlines has discounted flights between Boston and Washington, DC this weekend.  Both cities draw revelers from all over the country each Independence Day, with celebrations, concerts and fireworks.

While many are booking flights to Washington, DC, in hopes of catching a glimpse of President Obama and the First Family, his first Independence Day in office is sure to draw crowds.  Meanwhile, the Boston Pops still perform one of the best Independence Day concerts around, making Boston flights quite the commodity in early July.

Flights must depart on Friday, July 3 after 7:00 PM or anytime on Saturday, July 4, returning Monday or Tuesday.  Fares start at $100.

Discount Airfare: Cheap Flights to Mexico from $156RT

Hola, Mexico!

The cheap airline tickets to Mexico just keep getting cheaper, and it's causing us to wonder why we're not blogging about these deals from Mexico.

We just got word of Orbitz's flight sale with American Airlines to Mexico. Round-trip airfare starts at $156 and there are no blackout dates. You have to book these flights by July 7, 2009, but travel is valid through Nov. 30, 2009.

Discount Airfare: American Airlines Cheap Flights to St. Kitts

While herds of travelers escape to more well-known Caribbean islands, American Airlines is offering you cheap flights to the more reclusive island of St. Kitts. 

Board an American Airlines flights to St. Kitts from June 23 to Oct. 31 for as little as $201 each way.

There are a few restrictions to be aware of: Sale fares are only good for travel Monday through Thursday and a two-night stay is required.

American Airlines Flight Attendants Hit Hardest by Job Cuts

Earlier this week, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines announced changes to services and staff, due to increased fuel costs and drop in overall revenue.

Reports released yesterday claim American will slash 1,600 jobs by Oct. 1. According to the Dallas Morning News, the majority of those jobs (up to 1,200) are to come from the flight attendants.

The paper released the following statistics, which shows where the proposed breakdown of job cuts will be, based on destination:

What's so different about American Airlines flight 63 from Paris to Miami?

If all goes as planned, flight 63 could pave the way for more eco-friendly flying. This Thursday, June 11, American Airlines will test next generation technology on board a Boeing 767-300 to prove that long trans-Atlantic flights can help promote green travel.

The Forth Worth-based airline said the green flight will use various in-flight conversation measures to show other planes how existing technology can cut carbon emissions, according to the Star-Telegram.

AirTran launched its $39 one-way sale ($78 round-trip) on popular destinations including Atlantic City, Chicago, Miami, and Cancun. Not to be outdone, American is offering a competing sale for travel on the same dates.

American Airlines No Longer Accepting Cash on Flights

Keep your change. American Airlines is moving toward a cash-less cabin, which means if you want headsets, food or drinks on your American Airlines flight, you'll need to hand over the plastic.

Starting Monday, June 1, the airline said it only credit cards will be accepted on flights within the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada.

American Airlines International Flights Sale

American Airlines is offering up cheap flights to Costa Rica and several other destinations starting at $74 each way.

The catch? You have to travel next week. 

Book a flight to the destinations on sale - including London and Bermuda - by Sunday, May 31. Depart anytime Tuesday through Friday and return the following Monday through Wednesday.  There is a 2-day advance purchase requirement.
