United, Continental Alliance May Impact Airline Ticket Prices

Will the new alliance between United Airlines and Continental Airlines yield cost-savings for the airlines, or cost increases for the consumer? That's the question on many minds as the airlines start to link under the global Star Alliance.

Last week, Continental Airlines was granted permission from the U.S. Transportation Department to join United Airlines in the Star Alliance network. This means flyers on United and Continental flights will have more options for booking connecting flights and routes, but does it also mean added costs?

Reuters is reporting that the result of the two airlines will likely will see financial benefits after the completion of Continental into the network, but industry analysts predict that can only happen if the number of seats for sale is reduced.

The weekend is almost here and that means last-minute flight deals. Continental Airlines has published their most recent weekend fare sale with flights starting at $119 RT.

To get away this weekend, book a flight by Friday, June 26. Depart on Saturday, June 27 and return the following Monday or Tuesday.

Continental's Bill Me Later Option: Book Your Flight Now, Pay Later

Need to book a flight for your cousin’s wedding or that high school reunion, but don’t have the cash to pay up front? You’re in luck. Continental Airlines is offering a delayed payment option now through June 30.

The program is called Bill Me Later and allows consumers to make no payments for 90 days. If you book a flight on Continental.com and choose the Bill Me Later option, you’ll also save $20 on your flight.

Continental Will Add More Albany Flights

Continental Airlines announced it will add more mainline service at Albany International Airport beginning this summer.

The airline's affiliates, Continental Express and Continental Connection, currently serve Albany, but mainline Continental planes have never had regular service in Albany, The Times Union reports.

Continental Tests Cashless Cabins on Flights

Continental is testing the skies with credit-only cabins on a few domestic flights this month. Currently, Continental is the last of the major U.S. carriers that does not allow credit cards to purchase in-flight food and amenities, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Continental's credit-card option will start off in test phases this month on domestic flights. Continental hasn't confirmed whether it will do away with cash altogether, or just offer consumers the option to pay with a credit card, while still accepting cash payments in-flight.

Cuba Travel: Non-Stop Flights to Havana from Los Angeles

Cuba Travel Services, Inc. announced it will relaunch non-stop flights to Cuba from Los Angeles. The company canceled all LAX-HAV flights in 2004 due to the restrictions placed on Cuba travel by the Bush Administration.

The travel company will be launching its first non-stop weekly flights to Havana from LAX starting June 30, 2009. The flight to Cuba will leave every Tuesday at 11 a.m. PST, operated by Continental Airlines. Currently, Cuba Travel Services offers flights to Cuba from Miami.
