Delta attendants set for union vote
Flight attendants at Delta Air Lines have been given a timeframe of April 23-June 2 to decide which union they wish to join.
This follows a notification from the National Mediation Board (NMB) earlier this month that it had approved a union election for Delta employees and February’s announcement from the Association of flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) that Delta staff had filed for membership.
In February, Patricia Friend, President of AFA-CWA, said that Delta flight attendants are keen to join the organization in light of Delta’s speculated merger with Northwest Airlines.
Joanne Smith, Senior Vice-President of In-Flight Service and Global Product Development at Delta, explained that today’s news will see flight attendants make “one of the most important decisions of their careers”.
She added: “Our flight attendants have long been successful at speaking for themselves and we continually demonstrate our willingness to respond quickly and directly to their individual and collective feedback. I’m asking all of our flight attendants to make an educated choice, based on fact.”
