ExpressJet’s innovative new Albuquerque links

April 16, 2007

Operating under its own name, in its own livery, ExpressJet has launched nonstop service out of Albuquerque (ABQ) to a trio of airports – Ontario International (ONT) on the far eastern edge of the Los Angeles Basin, Oklahoma City (OKC), and Tulsa (TUL).

In the offing are nonstops to Sacramento (SMF), Austin (AUS), and San Antonio (SAT).

The theory behind the airline’s point-to-point service is to eliminate layovers in crowded hubs. Flights are aboard 50-passenger EMB-145s, regional jets configured for 1×2 seating. No middle seats. Cheap Flight News suggests reserving a seat on the left-hand, or starboard, side of the -145. That way there’s no seatmate.

ExpressJet has its own in-house frequent-flier program. Dubbed JetSet, the deal gives you a ticket for every eight round-trips or 16 one-way trips, providing you make them within a 24-month period.

To get you to try the service, ExpressJet is sweetening the deal. It’s offering a free round-trip ticket for every four round-trips, or eight one-way flights, flown between now and September 30.

As it is not code-sharing with major carriers under its own name, ExpressJet is out to bring fliers on board by offering free XM® Satellite Radio, free snacks, full service meal options on longer runs, and some neat seats. The ones you’ll find aboard ExpressJet’s dedicated fleet are redesigned leather affairs, and fitted with memory foam.
