Airline News: JetBlue, Lufthansa Begin Codeshare Operations

JetBlue Airways and Lufthansa officially launched their codeshare operations today, which will link the two airlines' networks through flights to Boston and New York.

The codeshare between JetBlue and Lufthansa gives US customers more flight options to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Travelers on flights to popular European destinations including Barcelona, Paris and Rome; and Middle East and Asia destinations, will now be available daily via Boston and New York/JFK. JetBlue customers will be able to transfer between JetBlue domestic flights to Lufthansa international flights without hassle.

Lufthansa's Cheap Flights to European Cities from $300

If you’ve traveled to Europe, but skipped the lesser-known cities, now is the perfect time to visit. Lufthansa is offering flights to some of the big-name cities, like London, as well as other unique locations, like Luxembourg and Oslo.

To get these fares, mid-week travel and a Saturday night stay are required. Book a by Nov. 19. Travel to Europe is permitted between Jan. 15 and March 25, 2010, while return trips are available between Jan. 18 and June 28, 2010.

We searched for a flight between Philadelphia and Oslo in January and with taxes, a round-trip flight totaled $976. When the price is broken down, the fare is actually less than advertised ($575 round-trip). We opted for a flight on a Tuesday to get this price.

Lufthansa's Three-Day Sale on Flights to Europe

Airline News: Lufthansa Plans In-flight Web, Cell Phone Service

Lufthansa Flying Lufthansa just got a whole lot cooler. The international airline announced today that it plans to add new  in-flight WiFi and phone services on flights between the U.S. and Europe. The new technology is expected to be installed and fully implemented by mid-2010, according to The Associated Press.

Lufthansa attempted this technology upgrade three years ago, but cancelled the plan due to lack of demand. It seems most airlines are starting to catch up with the WiFi times, and now Lufthansa is back in the game.

Lufthansa's "Fall into Fitness" Ski Special

When it comes to skiing, the European Alps is the motherland. From Turin, Italy, which hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics, to the ski resort city of Innsbruck, Austria, the Alps are the premier destination for die-hard skiers.

Lufthansa Airlines is inviting travelers to “Fall into Fitness” with their ski special. The sale includes flights from major U.S. cities, like New York and San Francisco, to popular ski locations in Europe.

Book a flight by Oct. 7 and depart between Oct. 26 and Dec. 10. Return flights are permitted between Nov. 1 and March 10, 2010. The lowest fares can be found for mid-week travel and a Saturday night stay is required.

Airline News: JetBlue, Lufthansa Sign Codeshare Deal

Lufthansa and JetBlue have agreed to a codeshare deal, allowing travelers in U.S. cities operated by JetBlue the option to connect with Lufthansa flights in New York or Boston, for onward travel throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Under the codeshare agreement, Lufthansa is offering customers extended travel options in the USA and Puerto Rico.

The codeshare agreement was submitted for approval to the US Department of Transportation (DOT). Pending its approval, codeshare flights will be available for sale at the end of September through lufthansa.com and jetblue.com

Lufthansa Oktoberfest Sale to Munich from $333

Munich No one wants to shell out a lot of cash for a flight to Munich during Oktoberfest. After all, you want to spend it on beer and bratwurst.

Lufthansa is currently offering discounted fares to Munich during Oktoberfest and while the fares are impressive, it’s the flight that we’re excited about. According to Lufthansa’s Web site, flights will include Bavarian snacks and audio entertainment. On some flights, the crew will even be dressed in traditional attire.

Flights must be booked by Sept. 17 for departures between Sept. 14 and Oct. 1. Return between Sept. 20 and Jan. 1, 2010. The sale fares are good for midweek travel only.

Lufthansa Mediterranean Flight Sale from $229 OW

If the only thing keeping you away from the Mediterranean has been steep airfares, we’ve got good news. Lufthansa is currently running a fare sale to some of Europe’s most incredible destinations, including Athens, Marseille and Barcelona.

Flights must be booked by Aug. 26, but departures are valid through Oct. 25. Return flights are available through Jan. 25, 2010. To get the cheapest fare, travel during the middle of the week, since a surcharge will be applied to weekend flights.

Lufthansa Offers Compensation for Rainy Days

Lufthansa What's worse than rain every day of your beach vacation? Not much, actually, but when you add up all the money you spent on sunscreen, beachwear and the flights and hotels for your beach vacation, the rainy day blue truly sink in.

One airline is offering a small silver lining in the sky. Book an international flight with Lufthansa and if it rains while you're on vacation, the airline will pay you 20 euros (approximately $28) for every day you're rained out.

No, it won't pay for the entire trip, but the extra money will get you a few more cocktails at the hotel bar or provide the extra money you need to buy yourself something special from your washed out trip.
