Airline News: WestJet Launches Flights to/from Miami, Atlantic City

Canadian carrier WestJet is flying into more U.S. cities this October.

The airline will begin flights to/from Miami on Oct. 21 and Atlantic City flights on Oct. 22. For travel between the start date and Jan. 31, travelers must book flights by July 15. The black-out dates for these routes are Dec. 17 through Jan. 4.

In a search for flights between Atlantic City and Toronto on WestJet, we were able to score a $217 RT fare in early November.

Although, we can’t imagine wanting to leave Hawaii, WestJet will also begin service between Lihue (Kauai) on Dec. 16 to Canada. The same book-by and black-out dates apply.

Airline Service Hits Four-year High, Study Shows

Before you book your next flight, consider the airline's reputation.

Low-cost airlines took top nods in this year's Airline Quality Rating (AQR) study, which was just released this morning.

The Associated Press reports that Hawaiian Airlines took the number one spot, followed by low-cost carriers AirTran and JetBlue, which rounded out the top three.

Discount Airfare: Air France Flights to Paris, Europe

There are few things more divine than springtime in Paris, but we may have found a few.

Air France is offering discounted fares to Paris, Nice and other European cities for travel through May 20. The book-by date is April 15.

In addition to the cheap flights to Europe, Air France is giving travelers one free layover in Paris in each direction. Before you say “no” to a layover, listen up: You can take the connecting flight several days after you arrive in Paris. That gives you time in Paris to traipse the Champs-Elysses, climb the Eiffel Tower, admire the Mona Lisa or just people watch at a Parisian cafe.

Singapore Airlines to Cut US-International Flights

Singapore Airlines will cut its flights by 11 percent over the coming year, citing poor advance bookings and the general economic conditions as the culprit for fewer flights.

The flight cuts will be made between April 2009 and March 2010. Singapore Airlines reduced flights to the U.S. last month, and an announcement to terminate Vancouver flights was made over the weekend.

Chew Choon Seng, chief executive of Singapore Airlines, said: "The drop in air transportation has been sharp and swift.

Discount Airfare: Hawaii Flights on Sale

Korean’s new premium class seats

Nothing eases your transpacific passage like space – lots of space.

Should you find yourself in first class on Korean Air this spring, you’ll have an ample amount of it.

Beginning in May the carrier’s new Boeing 777-300ERs will feature first class seats that are 27 inches wide, offer an astounding 82 inches of pitch (essentially knee room), and 180-degree lie-flat beds. 

New First Class cabin on Swiss

Swiss International Airlines is to introduce a new First Class cabin as part of its fleet renewal program this spring.

The carrier is replacing its current Airbus A330-200s with new and more fuel-efficient A330-300s.

Seats in the new First Class cabin can be pushed back to form a fully flie-flat bed that is more than six feet long. Down-filled duvets and pneumatic air cushions are included.

Discount Airfare: BOGO South Africa Flights

BOGO refers to more than just a seasonal retail shopping.

Thanks to a special promotion from South African Airways, travelers who buy one round-trip ticket from  New York Kennedy (JFK) or Washington, D.C. Dulles (IAD) to Johannesburg (JNB) or Cape Town (CPT) for $1,399 (exclusive of taxes and fees) will get a free companion ticket for the same South Africa flight. The deal also applies to Dakar (DKR).
