United to Cut Some International Flights
United Airlines announced it will cut 7 percent of its current international flight routes “in an effort to better match supply with demand”.
The international flight reduction is part of the necessary cuts United is making after reported a $323 million second quarter net loss.
The specific routes and flights haven't been announced yet, but United said the reduced international routes won't go into effect until the last three to four months of this year.
In a press release from the airline, Chief Financial Officer Kathryn Mikells said: "We are taking aggressive actions to position United for recovery, including reducing our international capacity by an additional seven per cent later this year, implementing industry-leading unit cost reductions, and bolstering our liquidity."
