Virgin America Altering Baggage Fee for Flyers
A mixed blessing from discount airline Virgin America presents good news and bad news to travelers.
The bad news is that beginning May 5th, the high—touch, low-fare carrier will start charging $15 for Main Cabin passengers to check their first bag. The good news is that your $15 goes quite a long way: Your second and third checked bags are covered under the same fee.
Virgin America is also cutting costs on reservation changes or cancellations. As of May 5th, you’ll pay $50 instead of the previous $75.
The reason for the costly cuts? “We’re looking at all areas of our operation to help maintain competitive fares,” Diane Walke, Virgin America’s vice president of planning and sales.
