Bigger cell phone waiting lot arrives at Boston Logan

Talk it up... new cell phone lots at Logan

Ever circled the terminal roadway interminably, looking for friend or family waving frantically to be picked up? It can bedevil the best of us. That’s why cell phone waiting lots can be wondrous things – especially at airports where vehicular traffic is a challenge.

Boston Logan is one of those places.

To cut down on ground-bound congestion Boston’s Cell Phone Waiting Lot has grown, and relocated. It used to have just ten spaces. Now it has 60. It was farther away from the terminal, on Harborside Drive. Now it’s more convenient.

You’ll find the larger lot at the intersection of Hotel Drive and Service Road, near the airport Gulf Station.

Park at the lot for up to half an hour for free while waiting for friends or family to call. Then go get them. No need to orbit the terminals waiting for that wave.

For the uninitiated, getting to Boston Logan via car can be interesting. Here’s how to find the Cell Phone Waiting Lot: from the Ted Williams Tunnel take the Harborside Drive exit. Turn left at the light onto Hotel Drive. Turn left at the next light onto Service Road. The Cell Phone Lot is on the right.

From the Callahan Tunnel and Route 1A take the departure roadway for all the terminals. Follow the signs to Hotels, Economy Lot and Fuel/Food. At the end of the down ramp from the departure roadway from go straight through the traffic light (it’s got to be green first) and turn right into the Cell Phone Lot.

Massport runs Logan. In keeping with its green philosophy the lot uses porous pavement. That filters runoff before it seeps into the subsoil and recharges the groundwater.
