Cheapflights Weekly Round-up: Flight Deals, Hotel Discounts and Airline Honors
It’s been a busy week in airline news and air travel info. From second-quarter airline profits and losses, to last-minute flights and new in-flight food options, the airlines have been very busy this week.
And let’s not forget the hotels… The hotel deals are getting deeper and cheaper — free museum passes, dining credits and airport transfers are just some of the freebies hotels are throwing your way.
We grabbed the best flight deals and hotel packages for news alerts this week, and the best part is — we’re still getting deals! Stay tuned next week for more amazing travel deals, but for now, here’s a few of our favorites in this week’s Cheapflights Weekly Round-up.
Flights
Delta Does the Luau: We’re still in shock over Delta’s latest cheap flights to Hawaii. Starting at just $347 round-trip, you can hop yourself a flight to the islands a few days sipping rum drinks under the Pacific sun.
First-class for Less: Virgin America is giving their fliers a little love with first class flights from $199.
Frequent Flier Fares for Less: United honored their frequent fliers with reduced reward rates. Book frequent flier reward seats from Aug. 18–Nov. 18, 2009 at nearly 20 percent off.
Hotels:
Azul Hotels 30 Percent Off: If a relaxing vacation on Mexico’s coast sounds necessary (and why wouldn’t it?!) then grab this deal from Azul Hotels and save some cash for extra cocktails.
San Diego on Sale: San Diego hotels are offering travelers 25 percent off room stays or $75 off a three-night package.
News:
Travel writers have been working hard this week, thanks to endless airline news. For starters, second-quarter earnings reports were announced this week. While legacy carriers are working to recoup revenue, discount carries including Southwest and AirTran posted Q2 profits.
Meanwhile, United Airlines is launching a new in-flight food service for their passengers. Everything from deli platters to cheese plates will be available for consumption on your seatback tray-table soon.
Lastly, the people have spoken, and they’ve chosen Virgin Airlines as the best domestic airline in the league for the second year in a row. Maybe it’s the mood-lighting, or maybe it’s the in-flight Internet, or maybe it’s just that there’s something sexy about flying Virgin — whatever it is… congratulations to the Virgin team for making flying a little more fun.
