Expedia Eliminates Online Booking Fees, Change Fees
Need to change your booked hotel room? No problem. Need to adjust your flight times? No problem. Want to extend your car rental? No problem. And what's more, it won't cost you a dime.
Gone are the days of booking fees, change and cancellation fees, says Expedia.com.
Under a special promotion, Expedia stopped charging booking fees in March. The promo was scheduled to end on May 31, 2009, but yesterday the company announced that it would make the no-fee policy permanent.
In addition, Expedia announced it would eliminate change and cancel fees on all hotel, car rental and cruise reservations, and on almost all flight reservations.
“Today we are announcing the next step in Expedia.com’s ongoing efforts to provide our travelers the greatest selection, flexibility and value available anywhere in travel. Our aim is to be the single best place for people to book their travel. This is all part of our commitment at Expedia.com to put the traveler first in everything we do,” said Tim MacDonald, general manager of Expedia.com, in a press release on Expedia's Web site.
Competitor companies including Orbitz.com and Travelocity.com also eliminated booking fees back in March on a promotional basis. There is no word on whether or not they'll end fees permanently in an effort to compete with Expedia's new policies.
