Want a post-holiday break, one that lets you explore, see family and friends and do it all without the end-of-year crowds? Cheapflights continues to preach the precept that you can save significant time and hassle by flying when others don’t. Call it contrarian, but it works.

Discount airline JetBlue is a practitioner of the art. Book and buy your ticket no later than December 18 2011, and then travel January 3 through February 29, 2012. Do those things and save significantly.

These discount airfares entail a full 21-day advance purchase and are one way. As with all JetBlue rates, you don’t have to make a roundtrip purchase to get the price break – but you do have to figure in taxes and fees. They are not included.

One more proviso, these are off-peak deals. That means you’ll have to travel on the least busy business travel days of the week, and that means Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

All that said, here’s a look at JetBlue’s savings:

- New York Kennedy flights to Washington Dulles are $64.
- New York Kennedy flights to Chicago are $81.
- New York Kennedy flights to Orlando are $92.
- New York Kennedy flights to Tampa are $114.
- New York Kennedy flights to Salt Lake City are $129.

- Long Beach flights to Las Vegas are $34.
- Long Beach flights to San Francisco are $59.
