Increasingly, life is about quick access to critical information. That translates into access via diverse devices. Consider what Kansas City International Airport is doing to make life easier for flyers.

Kansas City just juiced up its website, and rolled out a new mobile site as well. The aim: instant access to flight arrivals and departures, bookings, parking, and directions. In other words, the essentials.

One of most useful features is “Find A Flight.” The interface provides personalized flight status, as well as specific terminal and gate locations. Want more functionality? How about security line wait times, real-time parking availability and – perhaps most important – weather conditions and delays both in Kansas City and your destination city.

According to Joe McBride, Kansas City’s Aviation Department marketing and communications manager, the goal is access to the airport’s core website on a mobile device.

“Our data showed that mobile users are family members and business travelers who want quick access to information both on their mobile device and their desktop computer,” McBride said.

What do flyers want most? Research shows – in order – it’s flight status, parking options and directions.

Kansas City International is the continent’s 38th busiest airport, according to Airports Council International – North America. Discount airline Southwest is Kansas City’s largest airline, with just over 40 percent of the pie.
