Standing Room Only Flights? Spring Airlines Packs ‘Em In
Think the legroom provided in coach class is too cramped? Fine, then. You can stand during the remainder of your flight.
Travelers on China’s Spring Airlines will have that option, maybe: the private airline is considering selling standing-room only airline tickets.
We’re pretty sure this conflicts with FAA safety regulations, but Spring Airlines says this idea is ‘revolutionary’ and hopes to submit the idea for approval within the year, according to CCTV.com.
With only 13 planes in its bandwidth, Spring Airlines says it can’t keep up with new flight routes and passenger demands. So, they’ve proposed a new type of seating that looks more like bar stools than lounge chairs, and still requires passengers to wear a seat belt. According to the article, the standing-room only planes can accommodate 40 percent more passengers and will also help the airline cut costs.
Flyers: What do you think? Is this a good idea for airlines to consider, or a FAA nightmare waiting to happen?

Heck no! This is a bad, BAD idea. There is no way it will be approved.
Good idea! Cheaper flights for me, and probably better for the environmnent too since it fits more people on each flight!
Yeahh! I couldn’t agree more!. its not like you have to have a standing seat, so whats the problem.
I am 18 and have a great need to travel up north of the UK, and the canary islands. The big problem is i cannot afford it, and I would be more than willing to stand the flight out if it meant it was affordable!! Fantastic idea bring it on.
After seeing a prototype for the standing “seats,” I’m wondering if it will accommodate children, or short, fat or disabled adults? What’s the next innovation: Requiring the passengers to flap their arms out the window to fly the plane?
Good point, John. I haven’t seen any information about the ‘standing seats’ requirements and whether or not they are suitable for kids. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
