Vancouver International Airport gets ready for Olympic exit
The world will tune into the Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics on February 28, and the next day, the airport will see a mass exodus of 39,000 travelers boarding Vancouver flights - athletes, journalist, officials, and tourists.
March 1 is set to deal with record crowds at the airport, and Vancouver International has even built a support terminal to help deal with the extra capacity. Airport planning has been underway for this moment since 2003. The terminal cost one billion dollars, and was built in only three months. More than 10,000 people will go through the terminal and be bused to their planes.
A metro rail was also constructed to connect the airport to downtown Vancouver.
Air Canada and United Airlines are doing their best to reduce the chaos by using remote check-in stations at the Olympic Villages in both Vancouver and Whistler.
If you’re traveling through Vancouver International that day, your best bet is to arrive four hours early, according to USA Today.
